The Ferre Institute, a Title X
trainer on issues of infertility and adoption, currently provides 7
training programs for family planning professionals. Although our
focus is providing training to Title X community-based providers, we
encourage everyone to consider these important healthcare topics and
contact us to inquire about training for your staff. Training is
free for all New York State family planning agencies; all others are

New for 2008 The Menstrual Cycle: Do We Need to Cycle, How Often and Why?- To explore the relationship of menstrual cycles to infertility and fertility risk. This presentation will assist in considering the norms of the menstrual cycle and cycling patterns that are predictors of underlying concern for the medical provider. Additionally, the lecture will consider the significance of amenorrhea, whether induced or spontaneous. The unique role of family planning providers in patient education and identification of infertility predictors will be discussed.
New for 2007 Fibroids and the Famly Planning Patient: Do Fibroids Interfere with Conception and Pregnancy? - Fibroids are the most common and benign tumor in women. It is estimated that 20-50% of women will be diagnosed with this condition. The implication of the presence of fibroids will be reviewed. Additionally, the presentation will consider the treatment decisions, role of inheritance and higher incidence in African American women.
Basic Infertility Evaluation and Family Planning – Family planning providers are responsible for performing Level I infertility evaluations. Do you know what is involved? Topics covered include assessing the medical history, family history, psychosocial issues, elements of the physical examination and genetic aspects of infertility. Ovulation evaluation and semen analysis will also be discussed.
Answering Questions about Teratogens – Teratogens are environmental agents, such as viruses, chemicals, drugs, and radiation that cause birth defects. Are you comfortable answering questions about prenatal exposures? Learn what is new and where to find specific information.
Opening a Dialogue about Adoption – This is an opportunity to discuss the role of adoption information in the family planning setting with Ferre Institute staff and consultants.
Endometriosis – What family planning providers need to know. We have developed a new presentation about a common condition in women with complaints of dysmenorrhea and abdominal pain. Early recognition is critical to protect future fertility.
Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome or PCOS - PCOS affects 6% of women of reproductive age. Many women with chronically irregular periods may have PCOS without realizing it. It is important to know about PCOS because it can affect not only the ability to conceive but general health as well.
